PMK leader S. Ramadoss on Saturday ridiculed DMK leader M. Karunanidhi’s threat to leave the Congress-led UPA government on Sri Lankan Tamil issue, saying it was the last episode of a farcical drama.
Talking to reporters, Dr. Ramadoss said if he was really concerned about the welfare of the Sri Lankan Tamils, Mr Karunanidhi could have urged India to take forward a resolution against Sri Lanka.
“But till yesterday he was praising the US sponsored resolution and talking about amendments after the timeframe for moving a resolution lapsed,” he said.
Dr. Ramadoss said if the real intention of Mr. Karunanidhi was to bring in amendments to the draft resolution prepared by the US, he should have threatened to withdraw his support to the UPA government.
“DMK has 18 MPs and the number is very crucial for the survival of the government when Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party are not maintaining a good relationship with the Congress. But Mr. Karunanidhi is talking about leaving the ministry and continuing support to the government. I cannot understand the logic,” he said.
Dr. Ramadoss said Mr. Karunanidhi should come forward to bring together like-minded parties to topple the Congress government if it failed to support the US-sponsored resolution.
