A rally to create awareness of conserving the Tamirabharani was taken out from VOC Ground in Palayamkottai on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, Collector M. Karunakaran, who flagged off the rally, said residents of the district should conserve the Tamirabharani from pollution by domestic and industrial effluents, debris and encroachments as the river is the lifeline of three southern districts.

Students of various schools and a few colleges participated in the rally that ended at the starting point after touching Centenary Hall Road.

Commissioner of Police, Tirunelveli City, Sumit Sharan, Deputy Commissioner of Police T.P. Suresh Kumar, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Intelligence) N.K. Stanley Jones, Tamirabharani Conservation Movement’s Rev. Fr. Antony A. Cruz and Rev. Fr. Joseph Kennedy and others participated.
