Rajya Sabha by-election to be held on July 22

The Election Commission on Monday announced that the by-election to the Rajya Sabha from the State would be held on July 22, following the resignation of K. V. Ramalingam (AIADMK) last month.

In June last year, Mr Ramalingam was elected to the Rajya Sabha and his term was to expire in June 2016. In the April 13 Assembly polls, he emerged victorious from the Erode (West) constituency. The notification for the Rajya Sabha election would be issued on July 5. The last date for submitting nomination papers would be July 12.The scrutiny of nominations would be taken up the next day and candidates could withdraw their papers till July 15.

If required, the poll would take place between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on July 22. Counting would be taken up at 5 p.m on the same day.
