Actor Rajinikanth has removed the image of a ‘snake’ from his Rajini Makkal Mandram’s logo owing to “religious reasons,” according to those close to him. When the actor had initially interacted with his fans ahead of announcing his political plunge, his fans association logo comprised of a lotus, ‘Baba Mudra’ and the snake.

Lotus image dropped

However, he dropped the image of the lotus after critics said it indicated his proximity to the BJP.

Now the actor, who is already facing criticism from “secular” parties for mentioning that he would pursue “spiritual politics,” has chosen to forego the image of the snake as well. Sources in the Rajini Makkal Mandram claimed that the decision was taken after a section of fans expressed their apprehension that the image of the snake in the logo was similar to Sri Ramakrishna Math’s logo. Mr. Rajinikanth wanted to reportedly remove any apprehension that his outfit will alienate non-Hindus.

Thalaivar [Rajinikanth] had decided to remove the snake’s image after a section of fans said that it doesn’t go well with their religious beliefs recently at the meeting of Rajini Makkal Mandram in Tirunelveli,” the source said. The actor wanted to ensure that his outfit does not appear to be against beliefs of any religious group.

The membership drive for his outfit is expected to be completed in the next few months after which Mr Rajinikanth might formally unveil his party’s name.
