Even as actor Kamal Haasan’s tweets alleging corruption in the government have evoked strong responses from members of the ruling party, Cooperation Minister Sellur K. Raju on Sunday said that Mr. Kamal Haasan and Mr. Rajinikanth could join the AIADMK if they wanted to serve the people.

Speaking to a private channel in Madurai, the Minister said: “People would not accept actors. If they join movements like ours and work, there would not be any problem. If they accept our party principles and join our party, that is different.”

Mr. Raju said it was not that actors should float parties. “It is not that they should serve people by starting a party. But the AIADMK is the only party that is struggling for the people in Tamil Nadu.”

So, the actors could join the AIADMK if they want, Mr. Raju said, and added: “If they join, they can serve the people. They can bring whatever they intend to bring. They can bring about reforms. If they point out something, we will set that right.”
