Chennai Police Commissioner T.K. Rajendran was on Wednesday posted as the Director General of Police (Intelligence) and given full additional charge as DGP (Law and Order). He replaces Ashok Kumar, who “opted” for voluntary retirement on Tuesday and was relieved the same evening.

Another DGP rank officer, S. George, who was the Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board, was posted as the Commissioner of Police, Chennai.

Mr. Rajendran, a 1984 batch IPS officer, was posted as Chennai Commissioner in October 2015. Six months later, the Election Commission shifted him to the Prison Department.

However, soon after the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam won the election and retained power, Mr. Rajendran was posted back as Chennai Police Commissioner.
