DMK working president M.K. Stalin on Thursday cautioned that the Raj Bhavan could become the power centre in the State with the ruling AIADMK government not asserting itself.
Referring to the appointment of R. Rajagopal, an Additional Chief Secretary-cadre IAS officer as Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Stalin said the incumbent was adviser to the Inter State Council Secretariat of the Ministry of Home Affairs and it could be easily understood why he was reverted to the State cadre.
He accused the AIADMK government of being the “slaves” of the BJP-led Centre by pledging the rights and welfare of Tamil Nadu.
In a statement, Mr. Stalin charged that the AIADMK headed by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and his deputy O. Panneerselvam was functioning with the sole objective of bringing shame to Tamils by being the crowd that says “yes” to everything dictated by the Centre which was bent on eroding the rights of the States.
The Centre was also using Raj Bhavan as a power centre and another Secretariat now, he said, adding that the latest developments gave rise to a suspicion that the State would eventually be governed by the Raj Bhavan.
While there was an elected government, the Governor was reviewing works and giving statements that he would continue to hold review meetings with officials in every district. Instead of questioning him, the Chief Minister and Ministers support his functioning.
