Members of Dakshin Railway Employees’ Union staged a demonstration at Tuticorin railway station on Thursday, condemning the policies of the Central government.

Led by S. Densingh, president, DREU, Madurai division, the agitating members demanded the Centre not to implement the recommendations of the Debroy Committee, which submitted its final report on restructuring of Indian Railways to the Railway Ministry.

Mr. Densingh said the committee’s report would pave way for privatisation of railways and the employees would be affected if the railways was taken over by the private sector.

Hence, the BJP-led Union government should not accept such recommendations and desist from any move to privatise the railways, he also said.

R. Russell, State secretary of the CITU, and others also took part in the agitation.
