The Southern Railway will join hands with local bodies in an attempt to find effective and safe disposal of garbage generated in railway stations.

At present, garbage generated in railway stations in most urban and rural areas is either burnt or dumped in public places.

However, according to official sources, with the launch of the Swachch Bharat mission, instructions have been issued to Railway authorities to keep their premises neat and clean, irrespective of whether the garbage clearing works are done by Railway workers or private contractors.

Railway officials have initiated talks with district collectors to reach out to the local bodies in this regard.
