Raids against power theft conducted

Officials of the Enforcement Wing of the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) carried out simultaneous raids in parts of Sowcarpet and Park Town on Thursday.

The raids were carried out on Mint Street, Linghi Chetty Street, N.S.C. Bose Road, Kasi Chetty Street, Elephant Gate and Nainiappa Naicken Street, covering hundreds of commercial establishments.

This followed the advice of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to the authorities to deal sternly with cases of power theft.

A spokesperson of the TANGEDCO said that a total of 14 cases of unauthorised use of electricity had been booked. The officials were working out the value of amount to be recovered from offenders.

More such raids were proposed to be conducted soon, the spokesperson added.
