Officials of the Health Department on Tuesday arrested a quack at Kottai Street in Pallikonda.

The woman, who had completed M.Sc. Nursing, has been practising allopathy stream of medicine for the last 10 years.

A team led by A. Shanthi, Joint Director of Medical and Rural Health Services, Vellore, raided the clinic run by Sangeetha at Kottai Street in Pallikonda.

“We received complaints about four quacks, and conducted raids. We nabbed Sangeetha, who was practising medicine without qualification, for the last 10 years,” she said.

She said that Sangeetha claimed that she had completed a course on MBBS (Alternative Medicine) from an institution in Kolkata and got a certificate.

“We doubted the genuineness of the certificate, and she was not registered with the Tamil Nadu Medical Council,” Dr. Shanthi added.

The team seized injections and non-steroid, anti-inflammatory drugs from her clinic.

“We have been advising doctors against the use of such injections, steroids and drugs for treatment of fever and dengue but she has been prescribing them for patients,” she added.

The team comprised Hemalatha, drug inspector and police personnel attached to the Pallikonda station.

One flees

Officials also tried to nab another quack, Selvam, near Vettuvanam.

But he fled the spot before the team reached his clinic.

He was earlier arrested and remanded for practising medicine without qualification.
