Pull up negligent officials, says Ramadoss

‘Violation of construction rules has led to the accident’

July 07, 2014 01:35 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 05:37 pm IST - CHENNAI:

PMK founder S. Ramadoss said on Sunday that the only way to prevent collapse of buildings and walls was to inspect them at every stage of construction and conduct a final survey before they were put to use.

Reacting to a wall collapse in Tiruvallur district, in which 11 workers were killed, he said violation of construction rules led to the accident.

“Construction of a compound wall with a height of 16 feet and covering 250 metres without pillars was a clear violation. The wall is not even able to withstand an ordinary downpour. Officials who failed to notice the violation should be held responsible,” Dr. Ramadoss said in a statement here.

DMK president M. Karunanidhi said that for some reason or other, the State was witnessing a number of accidents and deaths under the AIADMK regime.

He also wanted the government to take steps for the release of 20 Tamil Nadu fishermen arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy on Saturday night.

Governor’s condolence

Governor K. Rosaiah expressed deep shock at the accident and conveyed his condolence to the bereaved family members. He wished the injured a speedy recovery.
