Protest planned

The ‘Anti-Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project Federation’, an umbrella organisation of various political outfits, on Monday, said it would hold demonstrations across the State on September 11, protesting against the police action in Kudankulam.

The federation includes Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam,and Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam, among others.

The group, in a release on Monday, said that the police had attacked the protesters and did not spare women and children. There was great fear and anxiety among the public in the area, following the incident.

CPI stand

Meanwhile, State Secretary of Communist Party of India (CPI) D. Pandian, in a press statement, alleged that the armed police have assembled in thousands in Kudankulam and were creating a tense atmosphere. It was cause for anguish that the situation had deteriorated so much.
