Grand ‘Mushaira’ sees famous poets

Twenty papers by delegates from different States were presented at a two-day National Urdu Conference on ‘Multi-Media in Urdu: Problems and Prospects’ conducted by the Department of Urdu, Mazharul Uloom College in Ambur.

The conference was sponsored by the National Council for the Promotion of Urdu Language, Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India on Monday and Tuesday.

Emotional bond

Syed Sajjad Husain, Professor and Head, Department of Arabic, Persian and Urdu, University of Madras, who was the chief guest at the event, said that Urdu-speaking people must have emotional attachment to the language.

K. Habeeb Ahmed, Associate Professor of Urdu, University of Madras, was the guest-of-honour.

N. Mohamed Sayeed, Honorary General Secretary of the Ambur Muslim Education Society (AMES) presided over the function.

Fatima Begum, retired Head of the Department of Urdu, Osmania University, Hyderabad, delivered the keynote address. L. Azeez Ahmed, Director of the conference, introduced the chief guests.

Many renowned poets participated in a grand ‘Mushaira’ (poetry recitation) held in connection .

Khasim Ali Khan, former Professor and Head of the Department of Urdu, Dr. Ambedkar National Open University, Hyderabad, delivered the keynote address at the valedictory function of the conference.

Mr. Khan spoke of the role of the Urdu language and the importance of multimedia in promoting the language in the modern world.

Syed Muthahar Saqaf, Deputy Editor, The Hindu , Salem was the guest-of -honour.

Nisar Ahmed, former Principal and Executive Committee Member of AMES presided over the valedictory function.

P.M. Aadil Ahmed, Principal, Mazharul Uloom College welcomed the gathering.
