While Theni Government Nursing School will have its own building with all facilities including hostel, Theni Government Medical College will have its ultra modern library soon as new buildings are being constructed on the campus of Periyakulam Government Hospital and college. These buildings will be ready before this year end.
A three-storeyed building, spread on 14,800 square feet, with modern infrastructure, was being constructed at a cost of Rs.7.7 crore for setting up the nursing school and hostel meant for 210 students on Periyakulam GH campus. The ground floor will have rooms for principal, vice principal, head of departments, conference hall, computer centre, library and nursing foundation lab. The first floor will house demonstration hall, CNG lab, OBC lab, nutrition lab, CHN lab, audio visual hall, and administrative office. The second floor will house the warden’s room, 30 rooms for students. Thirty rooms – one for three girls, and five rooms – one for four girls, and a recreation hall will be housed on the third floor, the PWD officials said.
The State government has been giving top priority for improving infrastructure at higher educational institutions in rural areas on par with institutions in urban areas, said Collector N. Venkatachalam after inspecting the buildings on Tuesday.
Similarly, a 13,000-square-foot library building at Theni Government Medical College was at the finishing stage. The facility will have a library and four spacious reading rooms to accommodate 150 students.
Similarly, additional buildings were being constructed at a cost of Rs.6.41 crore on combined court complex to house judicial magistrate court, fast track court, sub court and district civil court that were functioning in decades-old buildings. Besides, the new building will have rooms for judges and magistrates, pharmacy, bank, post office, computer room, public waiting hall, multipurpose halls, records room, prisoner's cell, and exclusive lift for differently abled persons. Construction will be over on October 4. Painting work was in progress, said PWD officials.
