The State government has asked C.V. Sankar, Principal Secretary, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, to probe allegations made by a differently-abled person on the involvement of politicians in the appointment of sweepers and watchmen in the school education department, Additional Advocate-General (AAG) K. Chellapandian submitted in the Madras High Court Bench here on Tuesday.
Recording the AAG’s submission, Justice S. Nagamuthu directed Mr. Sankar to submit a report on his inquiry before him within four weeks. The AAG was asked to file a counter-affidavit on the inquiry.
Mr. Justice Nagamuthu also ordered notices to nine persons, who, according to the petitioner, got appointments as watchmen and sweepers in the school education department based on recommendation letters of MLAs, Ministers and district secretaries of the ruling party.
Originally, K. Ganesan (38), a hearing-impaired candidate, had filed the petition challenging the appointments made in 2012 in Usilampatti education district claiming that he was not selected as a watchman despite possessing the necessary qualification.
A large number of candidates were selected based on the recommendations of politicians, he alleged.
The officials of the School Education Department admitted before the judge on making appointments based on recommendations of the politicians.
Subsequently, the judge had questioned the stance of the government.
On Monday, the petitioner further sought a CBI inquiry into the appointments made in 2012 in Usilampatti, Melur and Madurai education districts. The case has been adjourned by four weeks.
