Pratibha Patil to take part in inaugural of Classical Tamil meet

President Pratibha Patil will participate in the inauguration of the World Classical Tamil Conference to be held in Coimbatore in June, according to Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.

After chairing a meeting to review the progress of preparations for the conference, Mr. Karunanidhi told reporters that 7,356 persons had registered with the organisers of the meet. Of about 6,086 abstract papers received, 1,500 had been selected and the authors were being intimated.

About 350 delegates were expected to take part in the Tamil Internet Conference, which would be held concurrently.

The contests for students of colleges would take place on April 7.

Development works in Coimbatore district were being executed at a cost of Rs.300 crore, the Chief Minister said, giving an account of the works taken up through different departments and agencies.
