Power supply to the transformers and pillar boxes is being switched off in the city, wherever required, to avoid electrocution.

According to a release, the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO) has taken precautionary measures to avoid electrical accidents in view of the continuous rain.

TANGEDCO has arranged sufficient manpower in all sections to meet any emergency as and when necessary and staff in substations and section offices have been advised to be more vigilant and work with due care to avoid any accidents.

It has also appealed to people not to touch or remove snapped electrical wires or underground cables, not to touch moisturised electrical appliances and avoid touching transformers, pillar boxes, poles, electrical wires and other electrical equipment.

People should avoid walking or moving in stagnant water near transformers and pillar boxes.

In cases of any electrical shock at their house, the residents should switch off the main power supply with dry rubber footwear and inform the section office immediately, said the release, seeking cooperation from consumers to avoid electrical accident.
