The economy of Tamil Nadu is facing the threat of slipping into paralysis if the current power crisis is allowed to continue, according to PMK leader S. Ramadoss.

In a statement here on Sunday, he said that with uncertainty prevailing in the power situation, small and medium industries, knitting and textile units and agriculture are facing a severe crisis and the prospect of unemployment was staring at the face of those who worked in these industries. He said though Tamil Nadu purchased electricity from other States to overcome the shortage, the State is said to have stopped purchasing power in view of financial difficulties.

“There is an argument that it will cost Rs.10,000 crore per year to buy power for industrial purposes. But, if lack of power is causing daily losses amounting to hundreds of crores of rupees, the State should take steps to get power from the Central pool and also from other States.”

Dr. Ramadoss said that his party would organise demonstrations across the State on February 20, urging the government to regularise load shedding if power shortage was inevitable.
