Poor flow into reservoirs

July 16, 2012 11:28 pm | Updated 11:28 pm IST - CHENNAI

Inflow to hydel reservoirs in the State continues to be poor as the south west monsoon remains deficient.

The figures of inflow to the reservoirs were 156 million units (MU) in June and 132 MU this month. Last year, the reservoirs recorded 672 MU and 184 MU for the corresponding periods. The inflow in June was 480 MU short of the 10 year-long average inflow of 636 MU. Only 25 per cent of the 10-year-long average had been realised in hydro generation, according to a release. Up to the period ending July 11, the State received rainfall of minus 45 per cent.
