Ponmudi, wife acquitted in wealth case

A special court for trial of cases under the Prevention of Corruption Act on Monday acquitted former Tamil Nadu Minister K.Ponmudi and his wife P.Visalakshi from a disproportionate wealth case registered in 2011.

Pronouncing judgement, T.Sundaramurthy, Special Judge said the prosecution failed to establish the charges against them beyond reasonable doubt.

Holding that they were not guilty, the judge acquitted them from the case.

The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti corruption filed the case in 2011. It alleged that the former minister and his wife were found to have acquired and in possession of pecuniary resources and properties which were disproportionate to their known sources of income as on 31 March 2010 to the extent of Rs.1.75 crore.
