Many water bodies in the corporation limit are polluted. Uyyakondan Canal, Kudamurutti, Kathirikkai Vaikkal, Kathan Vaikkal and Irattai Vaikkal are some examples. The polluted water will carry toxic contents as not only domestic sewage but effluents from hospitals and factories are also let into these canals. Groundwater pumping from bore wells will increase intrusion of polluted water in many residential areas. I request the authorities to take expeditious action to prevent pollution of water bodies.

Eliminate plastic
Cheap plastics materials are in big demand from the public. The corporation should not abandon its mission in eradicating plastic covers and bags from its jurisdiction. There should be a constant vigil against use of plastics which are detrimental to the health of the environment. Corporation could install plastic recycle machines in public places. In the long run, this will ensure the elimination of plastics from the district.

Visible policing
We see the police in action when there is a public protest for lack of water supply, negligence in medical care or on security duty when political parties arrange protests or dharna. Where do they go on other occasions? Absence of visible policing gives rise to stalking, eve teasing, chain snatching and a host of other crimes. We see less and less orderliness on roads, places of worship and generally in all public places.

Traffic island
The traffic island at the eastern end of Lawsons Road is incomplete for over six months. Though its layout is approved, only civil work is in progress. The authorities can install a traffic signal which will go a long way in helping motorists. They find it difficult to manoeuvre this traffic island especially during peak hours. Though a policeman is posted at this location, he is hardly found regulating the traffic. Further, the traffic signal at Major Saravanan Square fails to function frequently. Let the authorities not wait for a major accident to set right the above problem.

Tiruchi airport
We should congratulate the Tiruchi airport authorities for its customer service. It is necessary for the authorities to explore the possibility of launching more flights. In addition, domestic services to cities like Mumbai and Bangalore should be introduced as early as possible.

Level crossings
The level crossings between Manaparai and Samudram were designed with limited use under pass and no pedestrian pavements were provided. So, no pedestrian is expected to use the ROB. But drain water gets stagnated in the underpass. Likewise the underpass between Manaparai and Chettiyapatty railway station is provided with unsuitable speed breakers and no cars and small commercial vehicle can enter this underpass. This underpass is also in desolate condition. The authorities should take remedial action immediately.
