The Crime Branch CID of the Tamil Nadu police, which is investigating the sensational train robbery case, examined on Friday the armed police personnel who escorted the cash-laden parcel van attached to the Salem-Chennai Express.

Even as several teams are on the lookout for clues in Salem, Tirupur and Coimbatore areas, the agency has roped in the expertise of a handful of officers from across the State.

Besides IPS officer Amit Kumar Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Tirunelveli, and Nagaraj, Inspector of Police, Salem, a few others who earlier served in West Zone have been handpicked.

Besides their experience serving in the CB-CID, these officers have also been involved in operations against extremists, police sources said.

According to CB-CID sources, the escort team which was led by an Assistant Commissioner of Police was questioned on the circumstances that led to the detection of the theft of Rs. 5.75 crore worth of soiled currency of various banks booked to the RBI here.
