Four personnel of Marine Police of Coastal Security Group (CSG) escaped unhurt while 10 rounds of live ammunition were destroyed when a police outpost at Pamban was gutted in a fire on Monday.

The police said the Marine Police personnel were having launch inside the outpost when the thatched roof of the outpost caught fire. A spark from an oven used in the nearby house reported to have triggered the fire, the police said.

The Marine Police personnel rushed out, taking away the .303 rifle, but they could not save the ammunition wrapped in a belt, police said.

After the fire was put out, policemen recovered the remains of the destroyed ammunition from the debris, R. Sakthivel, Superintendent of Police(CSG), said.

Acting on a complaint filed by the Marine Police, Pamban police registered a First Information Report and are investigating.
