Police file charges against 100 DMK cadre

May 02, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - TIRUVARUR:

Police have filed charges against around 100 DMK cadre for showing black flag to MDMK general secretary Vaiko during his visit to Tiruvarur on Saturday.

Mr. Vaiko was touring the region soliciting votes for the CPI candidate P.S. Masilamani when a group of DMK cadres protested his visit by raising black flags when his convoy passed through Sendamangalam Naalu Kaal Mandapam area near here. They protested his visit as he had earlier castigated DMK president M. Karunanidhi by pointing to the former Chief Minister's social stratification.

However, Mr. Vaiko only greeted them with folded hands and proceeded to the public meeting venue at the Tiruvarur Bus Stand where at the end of his speech he told the audience that some DMK cadres showed black flag to him. That enraged the MDMK-PWF cadres who consigned to flames portraits of Mr. Karunanidhi and staged a road block for some time to show their protest.

Following a complaint preferred by the Town Police Inspector Raja, police have filed cases against Tiruvarur Municipality Vice-Chairman D. Senthil, District party Youth Wing joint organiser Rajini Chinna, local DMK leader Thaadi Mohan and 100 other DMK cadres.
