The Tirunelveli Corporation should create an airy room with good number of chairs at Tirunelveli Junction and Vaeinthaankulam new bus stand for mothers to feed their babies in privacy , one of the petitions submitted to Mayor E. Bhuvaneshwari during the weekly grievance day meet prayed.

In her petition, R. Krishnaveni of Salai Street in Kokkirakulam said the young mothers, while crossing these bus terminuses, could not feed their babies crying inconsolably in hunger as no designated rooms had been created for this purpose.

Showing a novel way to other local bodies, the Nagercoil municipality had created a room with chairs and fans in the Christopher bus stand at Vadasery for this purpose with the Rotary Club having sponsored the facility.

As the key of this room would be with the time-keeper between 6 a.m. and 10.30 p.m., the mothers could easily feed their babies without any embarrassment.

The Tirunelveli Corporation could establish a similar facility at Tirunelveli Junction and Vaeinthaankulam new bus stand in the best interest of young mothers travelling with their babies, Ms. Krishnaveni said.

Sub-Registrar’s office

In their petition, Tamil Nadu Thowheedh Jamaath and the Manithaneya Makkal Katchi appealed to the Corporation administration to allocate the land adjacent to the ‘Uzhavar Sandhai’ at Melapalayam for constructing the office of the Sub-Registrar as it was about to be shifted for want of space.

The TNTJ also urged the Mayor to initiate steps for establishing an ‘Amma Canteen’ at Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital for the benefit of hundreds of poor patients and visitors.
