Plea for extension of train service

May 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:51 am IST - Nagercoil:

Kanyakumari District Railway Users’ Association (KDRUA) has demanded the extension of Tiruchi-Tirunelveli Intercity Express (22627/22628) to Thiruvananthapuram as it would fulfil the long-pending demand of filling the gap in daytime connectivity to Madurai and Tiruchi from the southern tip of the land.

In this connection, the association has submitted a petition to the Union Minister of State for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Pon. Radhakrishnan.

Daytime service

The KDRUA felt that it would fill the huge gap now during the daytime in the form of non-existence of any train service towards Madurai from Thiruvananthapuram, via Nagercoil. The association also demanded the extension of Mangalore-Thiruvananthapuram Maveli Express (16603/16604) to Nagercoil. This train, it said, would cater to the needs of office-goers to and from North Kerala and Mangalore.
