A number of places prone to road accidents caused by heavy vehicles — particularly trucks and lorries — has been identified by the district and police administration. According to statistics compiled by the Police Department, the annual casualty stood at 370 due to road accidents and a majority of them was found to be cases involving trucks and lorries.

With a view to checking the incidence of such fatal cases, the police department convened an exclusive meeting with truck owners and truck drivers here on Sunday to seek their cooperation in this regard.

J. Loganathan, Superintendent of Police, said that the any neglect on the part of the lorry drivers would cause a serious problem throughout the life to the bereaved family members. He gave a detailed account on the causes leading to accidents and the steps to avoid the same.

A group of 25 persons affected by road accidents narrated the incidents which had totally made their life miserable. They appealed to the drivers and owners to ensure proper road safety.

A power-point presentation on road accidents was screened on the occasion.

The police officials explained the preventive measures for specific cases.
