The performance of two tribal schools has dropped significantly while the performance of other tribal school has improved significantly in the Plus Two examinations for which the results were published on Tuesday.

Of the 10 Government Tribal Residential Schools (GTRS) in the district, only three schools are higher secondary while the rest of the schools were high schools and elementary schools. A total of 134 students of GTR Higher Secondary School in Mullukurichi in Rasipuram Taluk appeared for the examination in which only 86 had cleared while 48 failed. The pass percentage is 64.18. The pass percentage in the past stood at 74 in 2014 while 80 per cent in 2015.

Also, a total of 68 students appeared for the examination from Val Vil Ori GTR Higher Secondary School in Valavandi Nadu in Kolli Hills. While 52 students cleared their examination, 16 failed. The pass percentage is 76.48 while the percentage in the past stood at 98 in 2014 and 74 in 2015. The results of both these schools have fallen when compared to the past years.

But, the GTR Higher Secondary School in Senkarai in Kolli Hills improved the result when compared to last year. Of the total 16 appeared, 14 cleared the examination while two failed. The pass percentage is 87.5 per cent when compared to 84 per cent in 2014 and 81 in 2015.

The result of Model School in Kolli Hills has also dropped from cent percentage in 2015 to 92 per cent in 2016. Of the total 25 students appeared, 23 cleared the examination.

Though infrastructure in these schools was upgraded last year, regular attendance of students continues to be a worrisome factor leading to decline in pass percentage. Also, vacancies for teacher posts exist regularly.
