The Madurai Kamaraj University has no connection with the case relating to an attempt to lure college girls by suspended assistant professor Nirmala Devi of the Devanga Arts College, the varsity’s Vice-Chancellor P.P. Chelladurai said here on Saturday.
Talking to mediapersons after taking part in the graduation day celebration at the Theni Arts and Science College here, he said no one in the university was involved in the case. “Some persons in and outside the university have been politicising the issue with ulterior motive. They are trying to damage the image and goodwill of the university. The allegations are baseless...,” he said.
He further said, “I never meet any student on a one-on-one basis in my chambers. They meet me only in groups. This has been the practice,” he added.
The Central government had conferred the ‘green campus’ award to the MKU in September 2017. Of the 1,000 universities, the MKU stood in 53rd place in the national rank list in 2018, he stated.
Responding to allegation that an attempt was made to lure the girls by promising them government jobs, he retorted: “How is it possible? The TNPSC has been conducting examination for selecting candidates for various posts. Ten lakh people have been writing these exams. The selection process is monitored by IAS officers. Will you question the TNPSC?”
