DMK working president M.K. Stalin on Monday said people of Tamil Nadu were prepared for any sacrifice to remove the AIADMK government led by Edappadi K. Palaniswami as they had no doubts in their mind that AIADMK interim general secretary V.K. Sasikala and her family members were responsible for the death of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.

“It is deeply entrenched in their mind. They strongly feel that the State is under the control of Mannargudi mafia which has looted crores. People are not ready to accept the benami government of Sasikala,” he told reporters at Anna Arivalayam.

It was sad that the Ministers and MLAs, who have voted in favour of the government, are not able to enter their constituencies. “People should throw the government out and the fast organised by the DMK on February 22 will be the starting point in achieving the goal,” he said.

Mr. Stalin said when Jayalalitha was in hospital, there were no reports about her health and her death was announced in confused circumstances. “The treatment offered to her was kept a secret and mystery surrounds her death. When she was in serious condition, the meeting of the AIADMK MLAs was held and O. Panneerselvam was elected as the Legislature Party leader, and only after some time, her death was announced,” he pointed out.

Asked about the allegation of Assembly Speaker P. Dhanapal that he was targeted by the DMK members because he was a Dalit, Mr. Stalin said it was shameful that he had invoked his caste identity. “He did it to gain political mileage and divert the attention of the people from the issue,” he said, adding that the DMK had decided to move a no confidence motion against the Speaker.

Asked about actor Kamal Haasan’s demand for a fresh elections, Mr Stalin said people of Tamil Nadu were also for it.

The DMK would take legal recourse if Sasikala went to court seeking a direction to shift her to a prison in Tamil Nadu from Bengaluru jail, he said.
