PDS rice seized, one held

The Food Cell Criminal Investigation Department seized four tonnes of rice meant for the public distribution system following the interception of a van at New Town in Vaniyambadi on Monday morning.

Rajnikanth, Inspector, Food Cell CID told The Hindu that interrogation of Syed (31) of Krishnagiri, revealed that the rice purchased from family-card-holders in and around Vaniyambadi was being transported to Kuppam in Andhra Pradesh for sale in the black market. Further investigation is being done in order to nab the organizer of the crime, he said.
