PDS records open for social audit

Public Distribution System (PDS) records become open for social auditing during Gram Sabha meeting scheduled for January 26.

In order to make operations of ration shops and PDS transparent, government has ordered to present ‘A’ register, supply register, stock register, inspection register, kerosene delivery record and bill books of ration shops and Chitta register for social audit during the Gram Sabha meeting.

District Collector A. Gnanasekaran, in a statement issued here on Saturday, asked the public to verify these registers and compare them with the entries found in their ration cards.

People were also asked to discuss about the performance of the ration shops and to openly come up with criticisms about them.

The public can also give suggestions for improvement.

Panchayat presidents were advised to mark the accounts of all the ration shops that run within the boundaries of their respective panchayats, Mr. Gnanasekaran said.
