Former minister Panruti S. Ramachandran on Sunday said he would campaign for the AIADMK-Left combine in the Lok Sabha polls.
Talking to reporters after receiving the Anna award from Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, he said the progressive ideas of Anna was necessary for a regime change at the Centre.
"The change should not be like replacing one unwanted regime with another. The AIADMK-Left combine is abiding by the progressive ideals of Anna," said Mr. Ramachandran, who recently quit the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) and resigned from his MLA post.
Asked whether he would campaign for the alliance, he said he would do it and extend all possible help.
The Chief Minister also presented Periyar Award to Sulochana Sampath, Thiru-Vi-Ka award to writer Ashokamitran, Ambedkar award to Bishop M. Prakash, Kamaraj award to Ayyaru Vandaiyar, Bharathiyar award to K. Gnanasambandan, Bharathidasan award to Radha Chellappan and K.A.P. Viswanatham Award to V. Jayadevan.
Each award comprises Rs one lakh cash, a gold medal and a certificate.
