The stay of a Pakistan national in Thanjavur for a couple of days kept security and intelligence agencies on tenterhooks before they found out that he was on a visit to coach a badminton team.

Farook Abdul Jaffar, 36, a native of Jhelum area in Pakistan and residing in the Al Ahmadi region of Kuwait, arrived here on Friday from Chennai. Mr. Jaffar, an electrician, was coaching the Indian Badminton Association of Kuwait that had sent a team of Indian repatriates to a badminton tournament organised at a prominent school here.

While he had registered his presence with the police in Chennai, he failed to present himself before the Foreigners Registration Officer on his arrival here.

However, on Sunday itself, Mr. Jaffar was said to have met the designated police officer. Security officials questioned him about the purpose of his visit. After a thorough inquiry, they found that he was on a sporting mission and he had valid documents.
