Pakistan can never take even a piece of Kashmir which is an integral part of India. Our neighbouring country should understand that nurturing terrorism would destroy itself one day, Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu has said.

He was here on Saturday to visit the memorials of freedom fighters Veerapandia Kattabomman at Panchalankurichi, V.O. Chidambaram at Ottapidaram and Subramanya Bharati at Ettaiyapuram as part of the Central government’s ‘Freedom – 70.’

Speaking to reporters after garlanding the statue of Kattabomman at Panchalankurichi, Mr. Naidu said that Pakistan, which was nourishing terrorists to execute subversive activities in Kashmir and other parts of India, should understand that the terrorists might turn against their masters one day.

‘Freedom – 70’

Mr. Naidu said 75 Union Ministers would be visiting the memorials of 150 freedom fighters across the country as part of ‘Freedom – 70’ to tell the younger generation about the supreme sacrifices made by them to liberate the country from colonial rule.

Accompanied by Union Minister of State for Shipping and Highways Pon. Radhakrishnan, Mr. Naidu visited the monuments of Veerapandia Kattabomman, VOC and Bharati and offered floral tributes. After garlanding the statue of Kattabomman, he went around the fort and also offered prayers at Veera Sakkadevi Temple.

Though a few hundred tourists visit the Kattabomman fort every day, the manner in which the monument was being maintained was far from satisfactory, tourists complained. Officials, who received the Union Ministers, said a comprehensive proposal has been forwarded to the Public Works Department for the renovation of the fort on an outlay of Rs. 1 crore.
