Over 250 cattle protection camps to be conducted in panchayat unions

The State Animal Husbandry Department has proposed to conduct 289 cattle protection camps in all the 20 panchayat unions in the district to treat and ensure proper maintenance of the animals, said Edappadi K. Palaniswami, Minister for Public Works Department, Animal Husbandry and Minor Ports.

The government has earmarked a special fund of Rs. 14.45 lakh for the holding of these special camps, Mr. Palaniswami said while speaking at the inauguration of a camp at Ayothiyapattanam town panchayat on Saturday.

The objective of these camps was provision of proper treatment of the cattle in the faraway villages and imparting training to the farmers on their proper maintenance.

Veterinary experts would visit a village in each of the 20 panchayat unions every month under this programme, he said.

He also explained the various programmes being implemented by the State Animal Husbandry Department and called upon the farmers to take full advantage of the same.

V. Sampath, District Collector, presided over the inaugural. K. Kamaraj, MP, G. Chitra, MLA, R. Ilangovan, Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Apex Cooperative Bank, S. Satishkumar, president of the District Panchayat Council, and Sengottaiyan, Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry, were present.
