DMK working president M.K. Stalin on Monday hit out at AIADMK (Puratchi Thalaivi Amma) leader O. Panneerselvam for alleging that he had entered into a secret pact with Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami. In a statement, Mr. Stalin questioned why Mr. Panneerselvam had not raised his voice over any allegations against the ruling party, and charged that the latter was competing with Mr. Palaniswami to function as the BJP’s mask in Tamil Nadu.

The DMK leader said the former Chief Minister was hurling “ugly allegations” at him as he (Panneerselvam) was frustrated at losing power.

“My party and I have been questioning the Palaniswami government everyday and are unmasking their failures. He (Panneerselvam) is unable to stomach this and is blabbering. Mr. Panneerselvam is trying to win the favour of his masters in Delhi,” Mr. Stalin charged.

He questioned the former Chief Minister as to why he had not raised his voice against the sand mining scam, irregularities in the PWD and alleged disbursement of money to MLAs in Koovathur. “He has maintained silence on all these issues and is making such allegations [against Stalin], as he is frustrated that he has lost the post (of CM) which he got by accident,” Mr. Stalin said.

He alleged that Mr. Panneerselvam was indulging in secret talks with the ruling party and should stop making allegations in public meetings; instead, he should raise questions against the government on the floor of the Assembly.
