Operation of trains disrupted

July 05, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:44 am IST - DINDIGUL:

Operation of trains was disrupted for a few hours between Thamaraipadi and Dindigul section near here on Monday owing to a fracture on the newly laid second railway track.

The railway keyman, who found the crack during a routine inspection on Monday morning, alerted the Dindigul railway station immediately. The technical crew removed the damaged rail and replaced it with a 40-foot-long rail. The crew took more than six hours to rectify the repair.

However, the railways managed to operate a special train, Tiruchi-Tirunelveli Intercity Express and Guruvayur-bound Guruvayur express trains after making a temporary patchwork. The crew completed the work around 4 p.m. The second track was laid as part of doubling of the track between Madurai and Villupuram. The new track was thrown open for operation of trains in May this year.
