Though there were government-to-government relations between Tamil Nadu and the Centre, the ruling AIADMK did not have any political tie-up with the BJP, senior party leader and Fisheries Minister D. Jayakumar said here on Sunday.

Addressing mediapersons, Mr. Jayakumar said, “We will oppose [the Centre] when we need to. We have only government-to-government ties with the Centre for implementing projects in the State.”

“As the Chief Minister had said in the Assembly, there won’t be any political ties under any circumstances,” the Minister said.

As for Forest Minister Dindigul C. Sreenivasan’s reported statement that the current Chief Minister was functioning better than former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, Mr. Jayakumar denied that Mr. Sreenivasan had made any such remark. “I saw it on TV too, but he did not say that. It [his remark] had been twisted on TV. Since files were moving fast, he said the CM was doing a good job. Amma is an unparalleled leader and cannot be compared with anyone,” Mr. Jayakumar added.
