The Mylapore police have made a breakthrough in the series of break-ins and thefts by arresting a 26-year-old man on Monday.

Police identified the accused as Mark, whose original name is K. Lingayath.

He is a habitual offender involved in shop lifting and thefts, and has many cases registered against him in the Kodungaiyur and Pondy Bazaar police station limits, police said.

No family

The accused has no family or house to live in and had come out of jail only three months ago, the officer said. He was acting alone and targeted eight shops on Saturday night, the officer added.

The accused was produced before a judicial magistrate and remanded in custody.
