Science exhibition

Pushpalata Vidya Mandir, Palayamkottai, organised a science exhibition titled ‘Space Expo’ to instil scientific spirit in children. The exhibition was inaugurated by S. Ramakrishnan, former Director of Vikram Sarahbai Space Centre, ISRO, who is one of the engineers instrumental in the success of the recently launched PSLV G6 and the successful ‘Mangalyaan Mission’.

The ‘Space Expo’ showcased the students’ projects on India’s journey in space, timeline of ISRO and the contribution of Indian scientists to science. The chief guest urged the students to pursue any field of their choice with passion and excel in it.

He answered students’ curious questions, shared his experiences at ISRO and narrated anecdotes from his time with late A.P.J Abdul Kalam.

Freshers’ Day

To welcome the first year students, Einstein College of Engineering celebrated 12th Freshers’ Day recently in which former President A.P.J Abdul Kalam’s portrait was unveiled.

A. Amudhavanan, chairman of the college, delivered the presidential address. Prizes were handed over to the faculty members who ensured more pass percentage. Students who secured top ranks in the Anna University Examination and the students who had won the prizes in Anna University Zone Sports Meet were honoured.

To enhance the placement opportunity of the students, Einstein College of Engineering signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tessolve Semiconductor Private Limited, Bangalore. V. Veerappan, chief guest of the function, felt glad to sign MoU with Einstein College of Engineering and he assured that employment would be provided to talented students.

Motivation meet

V.V. College of Engineering conducted ‘Faculty Motivation Programme’ for the teachers recently. Chairman of the college S. Vaikundarajan and secretary S. Jegatheesan presided over the programme. Nearly 100 faculty members from various departments attended the programme. Dhamu, Film actor and master trainer of A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s ‘Lead India 2020 National Movement’ was the chief guest. Principal P. Melba Mary, emphasized the bounden duty of teachers in pruning and shaping the students, the future pillars of India. Understanding the prime responsibility of teachers, the principal highlighted the importance of the motivational programmes in strengthening the faculty mentally and morally. Mr. Dhamu talked about the significance of positive energy, influential role of teachers and the triangular connection among teachers, students and parents. He urged the participants to work cooperatively and continually for the welfare of the student community.

Seminar

A one-day seminar on Electrical and Electronics was held at K.N.S.K. College of Engineering at Therakalpudur near Nagercoil recently. R. Subramaniam, Chief Executive Officer, was the chief guest. K. Thanappan, general secretary, Vellalar Trust, presided. G. Natarajan, Principal, spoke.

Campus recruitment

A pooled campus recruitment drive will be held at Noorul Islam University on September 15. The process will be held from 9 a.m. Bangalore-based Magna Infotech Ltd wishes to recruit over 150 engineering graduates who passed in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

Phyonics 2015

The Department of Physics of N.M.S. Sermathai Vasan College for Women, Madurai, conducted the 13th inter-collegiate meet, Phyonics 2015, on August 11. N. Prithivikumaran, Dean, VHNSN College, Virudhunagar, inaugurated the meet and delivered a talk on ‘Wonders of Nano Physics.’ In his address, Dr. Prithivikumaran explained the development of nanotechnology and techniques involved in the production of nano materials. P. Christina Lilly Jasmine, Head, Department of Physics, welcomed the gathering. The president, G. Mariskumar, delivered the presidential address. The Vice-Principal, D. Karthiga Rani, offered felicitations. The overall shield at the meet was won by V.V. Vanniaperumal College for Women, Virudhunagar. It was followed by Lady Doak College, Madurai. The treasurer, D. Nallathambi, distributed the prizes to winners. M. Kavitha, Associate Professor in Physics, proposed a vote of thanks.

Erudition Expo

Madurai Sivakasi Nadars Pioneer Meenakshi Women’s College, Poovanthi, conducted an art and science exhibition, Erudition Expo 2015, on August 22 at Milton Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Melur. The college students exhibited 77 models at the expo, which was inaugurated by the Principal of Milton School, C. Ravichandran. T. Rama Porkalai, Assistant Professor, welcomed the gathering. In all, 1,164 students from various schools in Melur visited the exhibition. Amala Devi, Assistant Professor, proposed a vote of thanks.

Scope for start-ups

The Madurai Central Junior Chamber conducted a training programme for MBA students of Michael Institute of Management. It was inaugurated by M. Vijay Gupta, its vice-president. K. Senthilkumar, secretary, spoke about the changing business trends and the scope for MBA graduates to establish start-ups. J. Jegan Prakash, vice-president, dealt with the effective use of language to succeed in interviews.

Placement training

The Placement Cell of Standard Fireworks Rajaratnam College for Women, Sivakasi, conducted a three-day integrated placement training programme for final-year and M.Phil students from August 19. The resource persons — L. Justin Sahayaraj, S. Angappan and K.C. Gurusamy, from AIM Consultancy, Tirunelveli — dealt with communication skills, goal setting, motivation, interview techniques and resume building for 1,049 students.

On consumer movement

The Citizen Consumer Club of Sri Kaliswari College, Sivakasi, organised a lecture on ‘Consumer movements in India’ by N. R. Nagarajan of the PG Department of Commerce on August 25. Dr. Nagarajan, in his lecture, explained how consumer was deemed the king in a competitive world and the success of all business activities depended on customer needs and satisfaction. G. Priya welcomed the gathering and T. Nithiya proposed a vote of thanks.

Virtues of women

The Women Development Cell of Arasan Ganesan Polytechnic College, Sivakasi, organised a lecture for girl students by Ramadevi, a teacher in Panchayat Union Middle School, Ramalingapuram, on August 25. In her address, Ms. Ramadevi brought out the superior virtues of women and insisted that they should not yield to injustice or insults. The insults and humiliations should strengthen the moral force of women, who formed a formidable section of the society. Education, she said, was a powerful tool for them to come out of their shells and make use of the opportunities that were open before them.

Symposium

The Department of Computer Science and Information Technology of J. P. College of Engineering, Ayikudi, conducted the fifth national-level technical symposium recently. The event featured paper presentation and quiz competition for students from various engineering colleges. Prizes were distributed to the winners by Ramasubramanian of Tata Consultancy Services. Those who addressed the participants included Rev. Sr. Francisca, Rev. Sr. Pratheeba, the Principal, D. Gnanadurai, and S. Thiagarajan, Head, Department of CSE.
