Now, SHE teams in all Telangana districts

April 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:51 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Encouraged by the impact of SHE teams introduced in the capital to catch persons sexually harassing women at public places, the Telangana State police has decided to start similar teams in all districts of the State.

SHE teams were constituted in the districts by the respective Superintendents of Police and started working, the Crime Investigation Department Additional DGP Satyanaraian said at a press conference on Wednesday. Already, police personnel selected for SHE teams were trained in Hyderabad in two spells. Initially, each district would have two SHE teams. A campaign against sexual harassment of women at public places was also planned in all districts by the police. “We are contemplating invoking of Sections 506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult modesty of woman) of Indian Penal Code against persons caught by SHE teams,” the Additional DGP said.

SHE teams –each comprising a Sub-Inspector and three to four constables- would carry hidden cameras to record acts of persons indulging in harassment of women. They would be caught and based on the video footage, further legal action would be initiated.
