The Madras High Court on Wednesday quashed the notification issued by the Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) dated June 16, calling for applications for over 1,000 posts of Lecturers (Engineering) to be appointed in Government Polytechnic Colleges.

Justice S.M. Subramaniam passed the order on the pleas moved by three aspiring candidates including P. Sellamuthu.

The judge has also directed the TRB to issue a proper notification in accordance with the AICTE norms within two weeks.

According to petitioners, AICTE norms prescribes a bachelors degree in Engineering with first class as eligibility for the post of lecturer in the government polytechnics or a Master Degree in Engineering with first class. But the notification of June 16 sets the eligibility as a first class Bachelor degree. The notification has excluded master’s degree as eligibility.
