After the BJP’s Rajya Sabha member La. Ganesan expressed confidence about garnering the support of the various AIADMK factions for the BJP’s Presidential nominee, State Minister K.T. Rajenthra Bhalaji refused to rule out the possibility of it happening.

“There is nothing wrong if we support. Is BJP an untouchable party? It is not, right?” Mr. Bhalaji said.

The Milk and Dairy Development Minister went on to defend the BJP. “They have ruled this country for 10 years. There are spiritual-minded individuals [in BJP]. Why do we call it a communal party? They are the ones who made a Muslim — Abdul Kalam — the President,” he said. He added that the AIADMK was not being pressurised to support any candidate for President. “No one can threaten us. We will go by the party’s decision –the Chief Minister’s decision,” he said.
