May 14, 2011 01:44 am | Updated 01:44 am IST - CHENNAI:

The northern districts, like the rest of the State, have gone the AIADMK way.

Out of 75 constituencies for which the results were announced, the AIADMK has won 50 constituencies. Its allies have captured 19 constituencies. The DMDK has bagged 12 seats.

The DMK-led front could win only six constituencies. While the DMK has bagged four seats, the Pattali Makkal Katchi has secured two constituencies.

Many heavyweights of the DMK lost and they included K. Ponmudy, M.R.K. Pannerselvam and T.M. Anbarasan.

Senior Minister Durai Murugan, who contested for the 10th time, was elected from Katpadi.

The DMDK founder Vijayakant was elected from Rishivandiyam by a margin of over 30,000 votes.
