Holi, the festival of colours, was celebrated with usual gaiety by the North Indian families settled down across the district on Friday.

Expressing love and affection, young and old applied colour powders on each other and splashed coloured water in Ammapet, Narayana nagar, Town, Devendrapuram, Sankar nagar, Sevvapet, New bus stand and other areas.

The day was celebrated with great enthusiasm by all sections of the society irrespective of caste, colour, race, sex and social status. The festival has united people of all religions and has paved way for ever lasting communal harmony, observed M. Jaichand Lodha, whose forefathers hailed from Rajasthan.

The north Indian students studying in various colleges in the city celebrated Holi with their friends. The elders distributed sweets. Special pujas were offered at homes in the noon.
