The Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) president Vijayakant on Sunday indicated that his party was not averse to the idea of forging alliance to face the Assembly elections.

However, the party would prefer an alliance minus Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, he said.

Addressing a meeting at Maamandur village near Chengalpattu, after dedicating a community hall constructed by Shri Andal Alagar Educational Trust to villagers, Mr.Vijayakant said “There is enough time for the elections and the alliance issue can be finalised at that time. I want to make it clear that ‘forget and forgive' is one of the lofty principles adopted by the DMDK and as I have already announced an electoral alliance headed by me without DMK and AIADMK can always be formed”, he added. He termed Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi's announcement that pump set motors would be distributed free of cost to small and marginal farmers a sop to garner votes.
