“No safety for women”

October 07, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:51 am IST - Ramanathapuram:

Alleging that crimes against women and girl children were on the rise in Tamil Nadu, State Mahila Congress leader and MLA S. Vijayadharani has said that there is no safety for women in the State.

Talking to reporters here on Tuesday, the MLA who was on a State-wide tour to strengthen the party at the grassroots level said that the suicide of Tiruchengode Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Vishnupriya and a series of sexual abuse cases had made women’s safety a big question mark.

She herself was attacked by the police when she staged a protest outside the Assembly along with other opposition MLAs recently, she said. “When there is no protection to women holding high offices, imagine the plight of ordinary women,” she said. As the AIADMK government had opened Tasmac liquor shops in every nook and cranny of the State, crime against women had increased, she said.
