Asked whether the DMK would approach the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) led by actor Vijayakant for support, he said "wait and see."

DMK president M. Karunanidhi on Wednesday made it clear that he had no plans to seek the support of the Congress in the Rajya Sabha elections. The DMK has nominated former MP Tiruchi N. Siva as its candidate for the RS polls.

Asked whether the party would approach the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) led by actor Vijayakant for support, he said “wait and see.” Asked about the suggestion that if the DMK offered the RS seat to the DMDK, it could pave the way for the coming together of the two parties in the Lok Sabha polls, Mr. Karunanidhi said that so far there had been no talks between the parties. “If there is a discussion in the future this issue will be considered,” he said.

While appreciating the efforts made by Viduthalai Chiruthaikal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol. Thirumavalavan and Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK) to bring together the DMK and the DMDK, he said the DMK had also conveyed its wish to the DMDK leadership. Reacting to the Supreme Court judgement commuting the death sentence of 15 people, including four persons convicted in Palar landmine case, Mr. Karunanidhi said he was happy about it as he had been campaigning against capital punishment.

“I will be very happy if the judgement is also made applicable to the three convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case,” he said.
